Raneem El Welily (EGY) 3-1 Alexandra Fuller (RSA) 11-8, 7-11, 11-2, 11-4 (36m)
We all know the top girls are just back from Chicago, not only tired from an event, but add to that a good dose of jetlag. But it doesn’t take anything away from the lower ranked players, as they are giving their all out there and Alexandra today gave a lot of “fil à retordre” to Raneem, a good run for her money.
Yes, the world number one reassessed in the last two games, 4 and 5 minutes games, but the first two were not easy to say the least. Alexandra was finding her shots and retreiving beautifully. Raneem had to cover a lot of ground but couldn’t prevent the South African from taking the second.
Well done to both, great finish to a looooong day!
Alexandra played really good squash today and she put me under a lot of pressure in different corners of the court. She moved the ball really well and all credit to her for doing that. All in all I couldn’t find my spots on the court in the first two games, I was trying really hard to stay in the rally or even create a rally.
It was a little bit of a flat start today but all in all I’m very happy with my performance. To come out today with the last two games and the way that I played them, I think I’m pleased with that and I’ll go home hungry for more for sure.
