Hania takes out Tayeb as Joshna sinks SJ
Round Two at the Black Ball Sporting Club produced two upset results as the quarter-finalists were decided.
Egyptian top seeds Raneem El Welily and Nour El Sherbini were fairly untroubled as they despatched Rowan Elaraby and Alison Waters, while third seed Joelle King had her work cut out to see off Tesni Evans, and fourth seed Nour El Tayeb – the world finalist from Chicago – lost in three games to teen sensation Hania El Hammamy.
The other upset came as India’s Joshna Chinappa got the better of SJ Perry in four games to set up a quarter-final with King.
Welily now faces England’s Laura Massaro, who despatched Yathreb Adel in three, Sherbini meets France’s Camille Serme, victor over Joey Chan, in a rematch of their Chicago semi-final, and Hammamy is up against Nouran Gohar who beat Black Ball’s Salma Hany in straight games.
