R2: Score doesn’t tell the story for Sobhy

R2: [6] Amanda Sobhy (Usa) 3-0 Julianne Courtice (Eng) 11-5, 11-7, 11-3 (26m)

A solid opening win for USA #1 Amanda Sobhy as she overcomes Julianne Courtice in straight games …

Score doesn’t say it all today.

First game, 8m, second 9m with some fine lines which just went the wrong way for the 30 years English lady, WR30. She was in there, battling away nicely, and even forcing Amanda to a few errors, but in the middle of the game, two errors that gave Amanda a good spell of 7 points , 10/4 11/5.

Second, again, pretty close up to the middle of the game,4/4, Amanda finding her crispy targets in the front corner, Jules coming back close enough, 7/9 but the American going 11/7 to have a good two game cushion.
Third was all about Amanda, 6/0, 8/1, 11/3 in 6m.

Jules: “With those girls, it’s all about finding a way to go beyond matching them, matching them is not enough, it’s about finding a way to get on top of them… I tried to stick to the game plan but she is just too strong all around…

“I think I would have liked to be more adaptable today, the top players change their game, and it’s hard to adapt and adjust.”

Amanda: “I think I was so antsy because I feel like I’m one of the last people to play.

“My sister’s out of the tournament, she’s already played two matches and I’m finally just starting. I was really, really excited and had so much pent up energy, so I was very happy to be out there.

“I’ve had some decent results [at the Black Ball Sporting Club] especially at the last one, so I’m coming off some good vibes which I’m excited about also. My dad lives between here and the tournament hotel, so it’s a home club type of vibe which is very nice. It makes me feel comfortable and happy to play.”
