2021 Platinum Reports REPORTS

R2: Olivia makes it a USA Hat-Trick

R2: Olivia Clyne (Usa) 3-1 Sivasangari Subramaniam (Mas) 6-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-8 (47m)

Olivia Clyne comes from a game down to beat Sivasangari Subramaniam and complete a hat-trick of R2 wins for the USA …

I don’t think the match will stay in either girls as the best match they ever played. Tactically, Siva was playing far too short, opening the court to Liv only too happy to oblige and counterdropped beautifully today.

On the other hand, the American played far too many unforced errors to be happy with her performance, but this was a kind of a match you are happy to take a victory of, especially when you are not playing your best.

Not that comfortable on there either I felt, they both did their best, some beautiful rallies at times, most of the time short and sweet, feathery shots from both, just lack of match fitness I feel from Siva, but both working hard, 10m game 1, 10m game 2, 12m game 3 and again 10m game four.

Siva:” I feel I didn’t take the ball early enough, I was waiting for it to get to the back, but then, it would die in the back! I didn’t volley enough, it could be the fact that I didn’t have any matches for a year, as you mention, not sure…”

Olivia:  “I’m delighted to be through,”

“It was a brutal draw and Siva is definitely not ranked where she is supposed to be and when you see her name come up you’re definitely like “oh boy”. I knew it was going to be hard, I was hoping I was going to be able to relax at some point, not even from a ‘I’m ahead’ type of thing but just relax and play some squash. I think I did a little more boxing and gritting my teeth but I’ll take that, it’s all part of the process.

“I think it’s going to be a matter of throwing that away, taking it for what it was, which was a battle to get through and I got through it. Rest up and get ready for a big one tomorrow. Between Alison [Waters] and Nouran [Gohar] it’s going to be a big clash and I hope they have another five game big clash like they did last time at this tournament. I think it’s just a matter of trying to refocus and I didn’t get to execute my game plan like I wanted to but tomorrow is another day.”
