2021 Platinum Reports REPORTS

R1: Iker comes through a marathon

R1: Iker Pajares (Esp) 3-2 Shahjahan Khan (Usa)  10-12, 11-7, 11-5, 9-11, 11-7 (98m)

Spain’s Iker Pajares beats USA’s Shahjahan Khan in just under 100 minutes …

Define ‘Mammoth’ …

Well, I remember smiling when I read comments about Camille/Amanda game in the quarters referred to as “mammoth”.. Ehrr…. No people. 62m game ain’t a mammoth game. En revanche, a 98m one… 26m for the opener alone… then 15m, 9m, 18m, 20m. On a traditional court, they have to work so much harder…

Attritional at times, very patient and determined players, Shah attacking a bit more, but Iker putting a lot of pressure as well both front and back. Played in a very good spirit. Love it, even if I’d rather have a bit of a shorter version… 😊

Iker:  I didn’t plan on playing THAT long!

I had a few blisters at the end that burst, nothing too bad, but basically, my suitcase was taken by mistake by someone else, thank God I had his, so I was able to find him with his name on Instagram!

The case is coming back soon hopefully but today, nothing was mine but my underwear! New shoes bought today, borrowed racquet, shirt, short, etc!

ShahJahan is a very complete player, very very good at the back, very solid at the front, and he made very few errors, maybe 5 or 6 the whole match. So I had to work very hard to win a single point.
In the fourth, I was leading 5/2, but I made 3 silly errors in a row to the front…. Then it was close the whole way.

As it was not my racquet, I didn’t have any confidence to the front of the court, shoes brand new, but hey, I survived…
