Yathreb Adel has tested positive for COVID-19 following a PCR test taken on 2nd December prior to the CIB Black Ball Squash Open.
Before joining the ‘tournament bubble’, all players are required to take a PCR test prior to travelling to the event hotel as well as another PCR test the day before the tournament begins. Further tests are then taken every four days during tournaments in accordance with PSA’s strict COVID-19 protocols.
Following her positive test, Adel has withdrawn from the Women’s Open, which will be held at the Black Ball Sporting Club in Cairo from December 7th to 12th Dec.
Adel’s place in the draw as the No.16 seed is taken by Belgium’s Tinne Gilis, who will now face England’s Mille Tomlinson in the first round of the PSA Gold level tournament.
USA’s Haley Mendez will take the spot left by Gilis in the draw, and will face the No.15 seed Nadine Shahin in the first round.
The women’s Black Ball Open will take place from 7th to 12th December and will be followed by a men’s tournament which will be held from 13th to 18th December. All 62 matches across the men’s and women’s events will be broadcast live on SQUASHTV and the PSA Facebook page, while the semi-finals and finals will also be shown by contracted broadcasters.
